City of Hobart puts customers first by choosing Open Office

The City of Hobart has engaged Open Office to provide an industry-leading Enterprise solution for the City’s key business functions.

In 2015 the City of Hobart commissioned an independent study in anticipation of replacement of its primary financial management system. The resulting key issues report identified that a holistic approach to enterprise-wide systems would significantly increase the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the City’s services, while ultimately making it easier for residents, property owners, customers and service providers to do business with the City and streamlined internal operational activities.

Following a public tender process, the City of Hobart chose Open Office Community as the preferred end-to-end solution designed specifically for local government.  Encompassing financials, customer request management, property and rating, asset management, licensing, compliance and local services, it delivers choice and flexibility in a fully integrated council-wide solution.

With more than 400 customers utilising Open Office products and services across Australia, the City’s General Manager Nick Heath said that Open Office’s customer and community focus was a key deciding factor.

“We wanted to partner with a vendor that understood the unique needs of our organisation with the ability to drive efficiencies through integrated and automated back office processes.  We need to improve the way we work and deliver enhanced service by making it easier for community members to interact with the City of Hobart.  It’s about putting customers first and building a customer-centric approach to the delivery of services.”

“This contract is of significant strategic importance to the City of Hobart and about much more than technology. The City is committed to transforming the way it delivers services,” Mr Heath said.

Open Office was confirmed as the successful tenderer in late October 2016 and implementation of the new business system will be phased over the next 18 months, supported by an internal project team.
